Got Mobile? Consumer Trends Show Mobile Tipping Point Is Here
The Pew Internet & American Life Project has new data showing some astonishing numbers:
- 85% of American adults have a cell phone
- 45% of American adults have a smartphone
- 18% have a tablet (though at least one source claims that’s climbed to 22%)
- 18% of an e-book reader
Sadly, Pew doesn’t update its data for teens as regularly (I know, First World problem), but I suspect the numbers are comparable (or maybe even a bit higher; for instance, their July 2011 survey showed 77% cell phone ownership but no breakout for smartphones).
The point being, of course, that mobile is now very, very, very mainstream. Not that this is big news. I’ve been talking about the growth of mobile for some time and what you can do to get ready. So the question remains, as you prepare for 2013, is mobile as big in your plans as it is in the real world?
