Screw Google, or Why I hate SEO…

Whatever happened to optimizing sites for your users? It seems we get so hung up on whether or not Google loves us, that we forget it’s more important for our users to love us. Pay more attention to Customer Experience Optimization (CEO) than Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Yes, we’ll be tougher to find if we don’t show up tops in Google; but, the theory goes, if you take care of your customers, Google will show you the love eventually.

Bruce Clay is a good man - and I think his post is intended to give the same message as mine. But if it’s not, let me be abundantly clear. I say screw Google. Create sites with your target customers in mind, don’t do any black hat or stupid SEO tricks (I’ll provide a list of tips tomorrow), and the rest will take care of itself.
