Steve Jobs in his own words

I didn’t know Steve Jobs, but he has inspired me for years. It’s telling that few corporate executives generate the outpouring of emotion Jobs has during his life and, now, with his passing. He had become, like those he admired, a rock star. Among the many very fine reflections on Jobs, his life and his work are these by Walt Mossberg, Om Malik, Robert Scoble and Richard MacManus.

While I stand by my thoughts when Jobs announced his retirement from Apple, I don’t think I can add anything to the conversation that tops what Jobs himself said in his 2005 commencement address at Stanford University:

“I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going, was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love… The only way to do great work is to love what you do… As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it… Your time is limited. Don’t waste it by living someone else’s life.”

Think different, indeed.

And one more thing… thank you, Steve.
