This is what happens when we get into August: The world gets much, much quieter. So, with little fanfare (and perhaps less of a theme tying them together), here are the links I found particularly interesting this week:
Anyway, have a great weekend, Big Thinkers. We’ll see you back here next week.
Are you getting enough value out of your small business website? Want to make sure your business makes the most of the local, mobile, social web? thinks helps you understand how to grow your business via the web, every day. Get more than just news. Get understanding. Add thinks to your feed reader today.
Rachel Sprung on the HubSpot Blog looks at 20 ways to increase content visibility on the “Top 4″ social networks. What are the “Top 4,” you ask? Why Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. And I’m glad, Rachel includes LinkedIn there, because it’s often overlooked as a key component of your online marketing.
Speaking of gaining insights into performance, I want to put in shameless plug for my latest HSMAI white paper, “Best Practices for Hotel Website Analytics.” While it’s specifically tailored to the hotel industry, many of the lessons apply regardless of your business. It’s a free download, so check it out.
Finally, I’ve shared a couple of videos this week to demonstrate the power of the local, social, mobile web. But it’s possible little can illustrate it as effectively as Social Revolution’s 2011 presentation, which I’ve got right here:
Have a great weekend, Big Thinkers. We’ll catch you back here on Monday.

Since I’ve spent much of the week mulling over the meaning of mobile marketing (try saying that fie times, fast), I thought we’d end the week with a quick recap of the myriad messages making their way around the ‘net about mobile. Enjoy!
Want further proof that mobile is amassing meaningful mindshare? (Sorry. I’ll abolish alliteration after this, alright?) MobileMarketingWatch reports that “…3 million coffee-crazy customers have purchased their morning joe using Starbucks Card Mobile.” That’s amazing (and, I swear, that last alliteration was MobileMarketingWatch, not me). According to the post, Starbucks CEO Howard Schulz “…maintains that both mobile payments and social networking will remain vital aspects of the company’s “blueprint for growth” in the future.”
Of course, none of this helps you even a little bit if you don’t offer mobile options for your site visitors. Fortunately, our old friends at GetElastic offer some great tips for developing multi-platform mobile apps.
And, finally, don’t get discouraged if you’re a little overwhelmed by the myriad messages… um, I mean the variety of opinion and insight around mobile. Take heart in what Frank Reed has to say about deciding what really matters and apply it to your own business. Mobile continues to evolve and we’re all learning from one another every day. I, for one, can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Hope you have a great weekend, Big Thinkers. Be safe and be ready to get right back at it next week.
