SEOmoz talks about QR codes and physical hyperlinking, asking will they lead to “…no more typing and no more search engines?”

Clearly, the technology provides both tracking for offline media and enables mobile as a serious player on the web. People have asked for years why Japan is so far ahead of the US. A better and more relevant question is when does the US catch up? And is your business ready for it?

For those interested in the idea of Twitter as an e-commerce driver, Linda Bustos at Get Elastic has published her follow-up interview with Todd Sieling.

One particularly interesting point: Todd discussing the 140 character limit and how he deals with it. He says, “…when I hit that limit I just look back and try to find places I can condense.” It’s a great copy-writing tip overall. Fewer words is often impactful and can go a long way, particularly when balanced with the use of images.

OK, so the US lags other countries in use of the mobile web. Still, the flip side is that 35% of US mobile usage is for something other than calls. And with over 200 million mobile phone users in the U.S. – visiting 12 sites a month – that’s rather a lot, don’t you think?

So what are these folks doing with the mobile web? Twitter-ing, for one thing. Which, according to Fred Wilson, is due for a big boost. And soon, receiving email from their friends on Yahoo. Yahoo knows it has lost – for now – the PC-based Web to Google. Clearly, the company is trying to gain a foothold in the mobile web to beat its rival to the punch. And the profits. So long as Twitter doesn’t get there first.
